Accountability: How To Show You are Accountable and Why its So Important

- March 27, 2023March 27, 2023 - Chris

When it comes to becoming a member of an organization, accountability is the most coveted attribute. Accountability is an essential quality of a responsible worker, and it is expected of you by your boss, colleagues, and all stakeholders. One question I hear almost every day from my clients when coaching them on how to be accountable is, “Why do you need to be accountable?”

I mean, there has to be something that makes it so significant, right? I’ll tell you about all the advantages of living a responsible lifestyle and how it can help you succeed.

Here are some of the advantages of being accountable.

It teaches you responsibility.
Accountability makes you trustworthy by highlighting your objectives and effectively forcing you to improve on your previous performance. By putting you through personal challenges, it teaches you to take responsibility for your actions.

Encourages Ownership
You effectively teach yourself the value of hard work when you hold yourself accountable for your decisions. Taking responsibility for your actions is the foundation of a responsible personality. It gives you confidence, and you no longer feel the need to assign blame. When hiring new project managers, recruiters look for this ability.

Reduces the number of conflicts
Conflicts arise when people blame each other for project errors, which is a well-known and proven fact. When someone is responsible, they don’t mind taking responsibility for their mistakes. They respond positively to criticism, admit their mistakes, and strive for excellence in the future.

It boosts productivity.
Every benefit of accountability is linked to the others. When a person holds himself accountable and uses constructive criticism, his or her performance improves significantly. This is advantageous to all parties involved, and it is yet another reason why recruiters prefer people who have a strong sense of accountability.

Assists in tracking progress
Accountability is a skill that allows a person to assess their own capabilities. It’s as if you’re examining yourself. Measuring your success and progress is simple when you hold yourself accountable in every aspect of your life. It demonstrates how far you’ve progressed since the beginning.

Encourages self-assurance
When you realize how far you’ve come by gradually developing your personality, you gain confidence in your abilities. I don’t think I need to go into detail about how good a confident player is at their game.

It promotes trust.
People have faith in confidence. No force on earth can stop you from proving your case when you are confident in your abilities. People admire people who are self-assured and confident in their abilities. How can you be sure of yourself? Of course, by being accountable. As I previously stated, everything is interconnected.

Assists in the validation of your ideas and thoughts
When you meditate on your thoughts and ideas, you can potentially come up with a slew of other ways to accomplish the same goal. Although every road that comes to mind may lead to the same destination, it is the journey that counts. Accountability assists you in validating your ideas and determining the best course of action.

Encourages you to try new things.
Accountability gives you the freedom to think outside the box. It enables you to take risks in order to improve your abilities. Remember that every challenge is an opportunity to improve your personality and skillset. As a result, one should never be afraid of a challenge.

Gets rid of the things that are holding you back.
Accountability allows you to see what you’re capable of. It removes roadblocks and aids in determining your limits. But it’s entirely up to you where you set your boundaries. Humans are capable of accomplishing anything they set their minds to, so you can always go the extra mile to provide superior quality and service. Accountability teaches you how to take charge.

Reduces Self-Pity Self-pity is the downfall of all talented people. Accountability allows you to recognize this limitation and remove it from your life. It teaches you to be calm and collected in the face of your problems, rather than an unaccountable person who is unhappy and insecure.

Assists you in making connections
People enjoy socializing with people who are self-assured, secure, calm, and accountable. As a result, accountability allows you to form stronger, longer-lasting bonds. It doesn’t matter whether it’s friendships, personal connections, business partnerships, or any other kind of connection.

Conclusion
However, as you can see from all I’ve said on the necessity of responsibility, I’ve only scratched the surface. There’s a lot more to it than you might think.

As I mentioned above, accountability has several social, professional, and personal benefits. I’d like to add that responsible individuals serve as role models for others. They inspire a culture of accountability all around them. People will follow your lead and prefer you to anyone else if you are a responsible person.
