As leaders, we understand that success is a learned behavior. We achieve success via a series of actions that we perform repeatedly until they become second nature. However, how do we go to the next level while we are stuck?
I’ve worked with wonderful clients at all stages of their professional careers and entrepreneurial endeavors during my career as a Success Coach. The most constant characteristic shared by all people who felt stuck for an extended period of time is that they struggled to perceive themselves as successful.
Not viewing yourself as a successful leader, or feeling successful, significantly hinders your progress toward achieving the next level of success. You undercut your own capabilities. You wind up abandoning projects prematurely. You make do with less. This directly affects your career growth, influence, and, of course, financial success.
Perceiving oneself as a great leader and experiencing success is critical to achieving more success. It is the enduring basis for your development and extraordinary results. It is what enables you to accomplish your seemingly unachievable ambitions.
Adhere to this five-step roadmap for feeling successful in order to accelerate your ascension to the next level of success.
- Prioritize your personal life
Begin with the fundamentals. How are things going in your personal life? Is your personal life suffering as a result of your career? Most executives think that in order to advance their jobs, they must sacrifice their personal lives. However, the reality is that your personal life is the bedrock of your professional success.
When you are surrounded by individuals who do not appreciate you or lack a strong support structure, you begin to perceive yourself in the same manner you are treated. You lose your confidence in your ability to do anything. You begin to see yourself as someone you are not. You begin to feel depleted as a result of the energy and effort required to maintain such invalidating connections.
A strong personal life and helpful connections propel you ahead to achieve your goals. Therefore, begin by assessing your own life. Do those who are close to you believe in you? Are those who around you thrilled about your success? Do some aspects of your life provide you with energy and determination to push forward? Your personal happiness will impact how you approach your profession. Therefore, take advantage of it!
- Celebrate even the little victories and tell others about them
Our ideas have an effect on our actions. These choices result in success. This is the definition of a self-fulfilling prophesy. Regrettably, too many leaders struggle to celebrate their victories. Many people freeze up, believing it is a fluke. Some are even enraged after a significant victory. This has a direct effect on their performance, teamwork, and even financial success.
This is why it is critical to recognize your success. No matter where you are, whether you are acquiring your first client or achieving your ideal job, you must enjoy every step of the road. There are no coincidences. Every event occurs for a purpose. Success can always be replicated. Make a point of noticing them all, discussing them with the appropriate people, and reinforcing the notion that you’re on the right route and that you always have luck on your side.
The tiniest victories are the most significant. This includes anything from discovering your favorite hairdresser to having favorable encounters at a networking event, identifying your specialization, securing your first customers, and enjoying a wonderful experience with your family… Celebrations are critical to a sense of accomplishment. Therefore, continue to rejoice.
- Maintain a notebook detailing your activities and successes.
It’s all about positive reinforcements when it comes to feeling successful. Maintaining a record of your activities and achievements is an excellent approach to generate these positive reinforcements. A notebook allows you to reflect on the events, successes, and lessons learnt throughout the day. Journaling may be a very beneficial tool in a wide variety of areas of your life, not simply personal growth.
Creating a diary record is not difficult. You might begin by asking straightforward questions. Did you participate in any activities that made you feel successful or proud of yourself? What were some of the day’s highlights? What actions did you take today toward achieving your goal?
Keeping an unique notebook of all the ways you accomplished something great, how you celebrated, and recording them in this unique diary can help you receive a significant boost on those terrible days you may encounter, assisting you in regaining positive momentum quicker. Continue to jot down everything that you believe others will want to celebrate with you. Continue to reinforce!
- View failures through the lens of a set of experiments
Our brains have remained mostly unchanged through time. Nevertheless, we must learn to navigate this contemporary environment with our archaic brains. It makes sense from the caveman era, when failing to notice a threat or an issue would have resulted in the extinction of our species! Our minds are primitive, and they are wired to focus on issues rather than on the good. Thus, it makes logical that our brains struggle to cope with failure.
However, the fact is that failures are wonderful! You’ve tried something and received feedback; now you may act on the information. Take it from Bob Ross: “We make no errors.” We just have fortunate occurrences.” Each attempt brings you closer to achieving accomplishment! Therefore, fail quickly, fail forward, and share your failures with your loved ones!
Therefore, see each failure as an experiment. The more times you attempt anything, the more proficient you get. The more you practice, the more you will learn, and the more proficient you will become. There is no such thing as a genuine failure. There are no errors. Each setback is merely a chance to go much closer to your desired destination much quicker.
- Compliment yourself and accept them
Leaders are sometimes their worst critics. Complimenting oneself is not simple. However, praises are the most effective technique to increase our self-esteem and maintain the positive reinforcement. It’s also an excellent method to stay motivated.
Thus, how can we offer ourselves praise without appearing arrogant? Consider yourself to be your own greatest cheerleader! Compliments might be written or vocal. However, it is a letter from you to yourself; just write it out! Compliment yourself profusely. Each time you “fail,” each time you “recover,” and each time you “win,” no matter how little the victory. You are incredible, which is why you are on your way to achieving and absurdly worthy of whatever your heart craves.
