You’d be hard pushed to find somebody in today’s contemporary world who does not realize the importance of exercise for overall health. Unfortunately, understanding is insufficient, and I interact with folks every week at my gym who have prioritized other things. It may be a businessman or professional lady who feels compelled to devote their whole time and attention to their vocation in order to advance or expand their firm. It may be the harried mother who not only works but also puts her family’s needs ahead of her own. Oftentimes, it’s someone who has felt lost as an adult in terms of exercise and proper nutrition and has just let life pass them by. All three of the individuals mentioned in these instances often come to the realization that something is lacking.
I like it when these individuals decide to take actions toward personal improvement, including scheduling time for their well-being and reprioritizing their needs. Once they begin along this path, one of the most satisfying aspects of fitness for me is seeing individuals recognize the connection between their own health, happiness, and balance and how much better they are at everything else they have been emphasizing.
