Why Vision Boards are Important
- Vision boards are an important part of my annual goal-setting process. They help me establish and prioritize my goals, values, and intentions.
- Vision boards are fun to make and can be quite artistic/creative.

As per Psychology Today, visualization can increase a persons motivation, confidence, and even motor performance. In one study, researchers discovered that, in athletes, visualization was almost as effective as physical practice. That’s truly amazing. When you are thinking, you are doing something. Thinking is a form of action.

Steps to Creating your vision board
1. Defining your goals
List the areas in your life that are important to you right now. These can be family, relationships, hobbies, fitness, well-being, finances. See how many things you can come up with (eg teaching yoga, travelling the world, taking music lessons, starting a business). Take no more than 5-10 minutes for this. Write down the first things that come to mind.
2. Find Images and that match your goals.
Find good magazines and clip images and quotes that resonate with you. Use only images that feel good to you. Start posting your pictures on the board. This step is where your intuition comes into play. As you place the pictures on the board, you will get an idea of how the board should be laid out.
The best place to get images for your vision board is Pinterest. You can find images on practically anything you want. Be it a car, a house, beautiful people or clothes. You can then print them out.

3. Arrange and paste the Pictures and Words
So, with your card stock in front of you and your stack of images in hand, go through the images and decide what belongs on the card stock and roughly place it in the appropriate section. Then move on to the scrap pile. Some images will go on the cardstock, some will go in a “later” stack for use in a future collage, and some will just be recycled.
By placing a vision board somewhere where you can see it every day, you will push yourself to visualize your ideal life regularly. And that’s important because visualization activates the creative powers of your subconscious mind and programs your brain to become aware of available resources that were always there but escaped your attention. Through the Law of Attraction, visualization also magnetizes and attracts the people, resources, and opportunities you need to achieve your goal.
By adding visualization practice to your daily routine, you will naturally feel more motivated to achieve your goals. You will begin to notice that you are unexpectedly doing things that bring you closer to your ideal life. Suddenly, you find yourself volunteering to take on more responsibilities at work, speaking at staff meetings, asking more directly for what you want and taking more risks in your personal and professional life, and experiencing greater rewards.
4. Review your Vision Board Daily
So you have your new vision board in a place where you can see it every day, right? Make sure to pause and review your pictures, messages, and goals at least once a day.
Recently, I started taking a few minutes each morning to review the goals that the pictures and words represent, to imagine what it will be like when they happen, and to think of something I could do that day to reach each goal.
